German police have cleared almost all of the activists protesting at a village that is being demolished to make way for a coal mine, in what has become a flashpoint for environmentalists nationwide. Long abandoned by residents, the village of Lützerath was still being occupied by a small number of activists opposed to the expansion of lignite mining in the area by energy company RWE.
