A person died after a car drove into a column of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on Sunday night, police said. Firefighters found the driver lifeless in the vehicle, a Berlin police spokesperson said in the early hours of Monday. There were no other people in the car. Police officers were at the scene and secured the area. The car crashed into the capital’s landmark around 11:30 pm (2230 GMT) on Sunday evening. No further details were initially provided. The Brandenburg Gate was built in 1789-91. It comprises six Doric columns supporting a heavy, arched roof.
