A German court has handed an eight-year prison sentence to Hanno Berger for his role in the sprawling Cum-Ex tax scandal that cost the country billions of euros. The 72-year-old was found guilty of three counts of tax evasion committed between 2007 and 2011. The maximum sentence possible for these offences is 15 years, and the prosecution has demanded nine years’ imprisonment.
