Dutch star Mathieu van der Poel won an action-packed 120th edition of the Paris-Roubaix cycling classic with a solo ride over the last kilometres on Sunday. The race was decided some 18 kilometres from the finish of the gruelling 257km with 29 cobblestone sections over 54.5km when a seven-strong leader group was split. German John Degenkolb, the 2015 winner, crashed and Belgium’s Wout van Aert attacked, only to suffer a rear wheel puncture on the cobblestones just when Van der Poel had caught him.
